Where Are YOUR Resume Stickers
Wzu siche Are YOUR Resume Stickers Where Are YOUR Resume Stickers When she moved away from her home in South Africa to the United States, no one would hire her to work in their restaurants. She was a diligent person, by nature and tirelessly submitted her resume to every single restaurant in town. But each place seemed to relish rejecting her.Anxious to begin working, she decided to try to do something new. She went to a stationery store and bought some stickers. She took that stack of resumes that highlighted her years of restaurant work and stuck a dozen stickers on each one.Little oranges and zucchinis adhered to the margins of her resumes.A sticky cherry dotted the i in her name. She went back to the same restaurants and resubmitted her embellished resumes to the same restaurant managers. This time, she got five job interviews and quickly secured a good job at a well-established eatery. When I heard the story, I was shocked at the superficiality of the job market. How could someon e care more about my friends taste in stickers than the fact that she is an incredibly competent worker? But as I thought about it more, I had empathy for the managers reading stacks of pale, processed resumes. They may not see the hiring process as a unique challenge. They may see it as a chore. They may even miss the nice person that just quit. What is the lesson to be learned here? It may not be to rush out and put some telephone stickers for your application to be a receptionist or put some toothbrush stickers on your resume to work as a dental hygienist. However, you may wish to consider your resume with fresh eyes.Dont look at your trusty resume that you keep on your desktop.Start again.Include an experience from 1982 that was really interesting.Mention the fact that you were called the Computer Whiz-kid at your old job.State that you have four children.Dont regurgitate that boring section that you dont even want to read.Emphasize the volunteer work youve been doing on Tuesday mo rnings. The key here is to experiment. That said, after my friend told me this story, I did not snger the sticker story too abstractly.I promptly marched over to the pet supply store that said it was hiring and asked for an application. When I was done filling out the job qualifications, I drew a picture of a big heart with my cat inside it.I got a call that night offering me the job.Master the art of closing deals and making placements. 5 Questions for Ryan Kahn on How to Land Your Dream Job or Internship - FlexJobs
5 Questions for Ryan Kahn on How to Land Your Dream Job or Internship - FlexJobs5 Questions for Ryan Kahn on How to Land Your Dream Job or Internship -32Ryan Kahn has always had a knack for helping people land their dream job or internship, starting with himself. As a college student, Kahn really wanted to work in the music industry but welchesnt sure how to break in so he started doing internships to meet people and make connections. Through his internships, he landed his post-graduation dream job at Warner Music Group, and immediately started paying his success forward by helping students still in college to break into the industry as well.Fast forward seven years, and Kahn is a nationally-recognized career coach who has placed thousands of students and recent grads in their dream jobs through Dream Careers, Inc., hes the author of the book, HIRED The Guide for the Recent Grad, and he hosted a 20-episode reality television show on MTV called HIRED which helped college students and recent graduates find amazing jobs while educating viewers on the best job search tactics..Because hes been so successful at helping other people find their dream jobs, we wanted to talk with Kahn about how he does this, and how you can land your dream job or internship. How to land your dream job or internship1) How did you get started in this line of work? Whats your job as a career coach like? After I graduated and starting working at Warner Music Group full-time, I kept going back to UCLA and giving back. Every semester, I was a guest speaker on how to get your break in the entertainment business. Every time I gave that speech and honigwein students, Id meet a lot of great students and would pick out the best to hand hold through getting an internship or job. I noticed that I was having so much fun working with students to help them break into their dream jobs, and then I was approached by Dream Careers, Inc. They offered to pay me for what I was already doing for free, and thats how I became a career coach.Ive been with Dream Careers for about seven years and I work with college students to help them find summer internships and jobs in the entertainment industry. Each year, I work one on one with about 300 students.2) How did you get started working with MTV for their reality series, HIRED (which followed young professionals through their entire job search process from application to interview to acceptance or rejection)? The short story is that it was the right time. The idea for the show came right when the recession was hitting and a lot of people could use a show like this as a great way for education and entertainment. The longer story is that a producer in New York had an idea for a show called My First Real Job. It was a great idea and he found out about Dream Careers and what I was doing and he thought it fit his vision of the show. When I met him, I loved the idea for the show, I thought it was great. We filmed an eight minute reel. It was very simple and not a very big production, but he had a great idea and vision of what he wanted it to look like. He also knew he wanted to go after MTV as the right place for it. The first time he pitched it, it got upstreamed all the way to the president, and he immediately wanted it for 20 episodes. It was documentary style so everything about it was absolutely real. It was real people going after really spectacular jobs.3) Would you recommend internships to college students in particular, or do you think professionals of all ages could benefit from them?Im a huge advocate of everyone doing internships no matter your age. I cant tell you how many times Ive thought, geez Id love to take the summer off and go intern at Warner Bros or konservativer Burch.I work with people who have been in a career and are looking for a change. And a lot of the time thats what Id suggest. Youve got to just do it. A year from now youre going to wish you had done it today. Great risk has great reward. By taking th at sacrifice of several steps back potentially, youll be so much happier knowing that youre doing something youre passionate about.4) Is it really realistic for people to pursue their dream careers in this economy?Youre going after a job thats a one in a million, during a time when that million has turned into a hundred million. But Ive had the same success rate. Its a matter of using certain tactics to get your foot in the door, meeting people you need to meet, making the right impression, and making it happen. You dont get to jump into your dream career starting today. You get there by putting yourself in the right direction today. Getting your dream career is a windy road but you have to start now.5) Fall semester is well underway and the Class of 2013 is considering their lives post-graduation. What advice do you have for them?bestattungs an internship NOW. Fall and spring internships are a great way to get your foot in the door early on. You dont have to commit that much to it. You can literally do a one or two day a week internship. Cram it into your schedule because thats going to get your foot in the door, meeting the people you need to meet before everyone else does in May.Think about how many other students are graduating in your year in your major. If youre a public relations major, youre also competing against all the PR majors graduating from UCLA, NYU, Harvard, Stanford, Florida State, everywhere. Youve got to do something that sets you apart. People like hiring people that theyre friends with. If youre making a good impression in your internship, just like I did at Warner Music Group, theyre going to want to help you out and make sure youre the first person that gets hired after graduation. Our big thanks to Ryan Kahn for speaking with and sharing his story and expertise To get in touch with Ryan, you can find him on Twitter HIRED.

Demand Letter FAQ - United States
Demand Letter FAQ - United StatesDemand Letter FAQ - United StatesGeneralIs the demand letter just a form of threat intended to compel the other side to pay up?No, the demand letter is designed to reach a civilized solution to the financial predicament that one party has caused to the other. By pointing out that further legal action may be taken if no resolution is found, the demand letter is intended to encourage settlement rather than going to trial.Should I keep a copy of the letter for my own records?Yes, you should retain a copy of the letter in case further legal action is required and the recipient of the letter attempts to deny having received it.If I do elend receive a response to my demand letter, what should I do?If your demand has been ignored or the Recipient refuses to agree to your terms in the letter, your next course of action would be to file a lawsuit. What method of delivery should I use?To ensure that the demand letter is received, you should use certified mail wh ere possible.Debt OwedDo I need to provide documentation of the debt owed with the demand letter? No, but providing copies of any documents you have evidencing the debt that is owed will increase the likelihood that the debtor will pay back the debt rather than letting the issue go to court. Can I use the Debt Owed Demand Letter even if the debt isnt owed entirely to me?Yes, you can use the Debt Owed Demand Letter, but only demand payment of the portion of the debt that is owed to you.NSF CheckWhat does NSF mean?NSF stands for not sufficient funds, and refers to a Check that has been drawn on an account with insufficient funds to meet the value of the Check, or an account which has since been closed. If my demand is ignored, and I file suit against the writer of the Check, can I seek other damages?Yes, in most states the Payee of a Check can receive up to three times the amount of the Check in damages, but damages are frequently limited to a maximum of $1,500. Am I required to send a d emand letter to the writer of the Check before filing suit against them? No, you do not have to contact the writer of the Check. However, sending a demand letter is often the quickest and easiest way to collect money owed because of a NSF Check.Stop PaymentWhen can I use the Stop Payment Demand Letter?Use this form of demand letter when a Check that was written to you was stopped by the writer of the Check, resulting in you not being paid what you were owed. How much time should I give the writer of the Check to make payment?Generally, there is no required time frame, but you should give the writer of the Check sufficient time to examine their records and determine if they have a good faith dispute over the payment that was stopped. Three to five days is usually a sufficient amount of time.SettlementWhy would I even consider accepting a lesser amount than what I am owed?In cases where you know that the debtor will not be able to repay the entire debt in a reasonable period of time, yo u can offer to accept less than what you are owed to ensure that you actually recover at least part of the debt. This option is most often exercised when the creditor knows that even if they win at trial, the debtor will likely be unable to repay all the debt. You may also accept a lesser amount because you want to avoid the uncertainty of trial, you need your money right away, or your legal expenses will be high and you may get little of these costs back even if you are successful at trial. What if the Recipient agrees to pay me?Having the Recipient acknowledging the letter and stating that he agrees to the terms of the letter is merely an agreement to agreement. Unless you have paid some consideration or given some value such as accepting a lesser amount or accepting payment over time, the agreement to agree would not be legally binding. If you are accepting payment over time and there was some doubt as to the Recipients liability to pay, you might want him to sign a promissory n ote instead. If you are accepting a lesser amount, you might want to use an Accord and Satisfaction (see LawDepots Release Agreement).

What to Do If Youre Feeling Alone in Your Career - The Muse
What to Do If Youre Feeling Alone in Your Career - The MuseWhat to Do If Youre Feeling Alone in Your Career You probably think youre the only one who influences your career path. Realistically, it was you who powered through those three rounds of interviews, you who signed on that big client, you who put in long hours to get that promotion- right? But the thing is, youre not the only person in those situations I just described above. On the other side, the hiring manager had to hire you despite you being maybe a bit underqualified. The client had to take the risk of signing on with a new company. The manager had to put his or her faith in you that you were ready for more responsibility. In addition to all your hard work, someone else also took a chance on you- even if he or she didnt explicitly contribute to your achievements. This is the major theme in a recent post by Bijan Sabet titled, Who took a chance on you? In it, he lists out and gives thanks to the people throughout his lif e who gave him a shot despite the odds. One reader was so inspired by the idea he made his own list titled, The Credit Goes to Resume. And in his, he acknowledges the co-workers, investors, customers, and friends who lead to his career successes. These people gave him ideas, room to grow, and the confidence to go after his goals- non-tangible things, yes, but totenstill just as important. His closing statement says it all Reading my resume laid out this way really makes me believe in luck and privilege. Merit is part of the story, but never the whole story. Huge gratitude to the people on this list and to the dozens of other people that have helped give me opportunities. So, the next time youre feeling like youre alone on your career path, forced to slog through it all by yourself, consider writing out your own The Credit Goes to resume and showing gratitude to the people who helped you along the way. Its not only good for you, but its a great reminder that youre never alone in your journey- and that youre surrounded by some pretty awesome and supportive people.Photo of two friends writing courtesy of Alys Tomlinson/Getty Images.
